Charybdis
CHARYBDIS
A small arcade-style prototype made for a the Mini Jam 210: Astral
Important Compatibility Note: Godot exported games for Web seem to have a Problem with some forked Browsers like LibreWolf.
It works fine on Chrome and vanilla Firefox.
If you don't hear the audio, it's because there is none - I ran out of time :(
Protect planets from being consumed by Charybdis, an ancient entity trapped within a black hole. Move your orbital shield around the event horizon and deflect incoming worlds for as long as possible while the game steadily becomes more chaotic.
The closer you move to the black hole, the smaller your shield becomes, allowing tighter movement at the cost of defense coverage.
Built in Godot.
While the core idea of the game is represented there is much missing, but due to the limited nature of time itself, this is the current state of the game I'm submitting.
With the only exception of the Skybox/Background, which was made with this tool, all Contents and assets are either made by me or came out of the box with the Godot Engine.
No audio, the focus was on making the game playable and somewhat enjoyable.
If I put more time into the game I would
- Add Power Ups
- Add Power Downs
- Add more physics
- Make the Game feel more 2.5D
- Add BGM, Sound FX and give Charybdis a voice, and if only to complain.
- Create (different) Models for the Planets and the Station
- Learn how to make a shader for the black Hole to make it a proper, scary black hole with accretion disk and everything
- give it some more mechanics like planets shouldnt crash into each other, the station can deflect sideways, ...
